Web Site Objectives

Essential to the success of the GlobalPittsburgh Web site was that it serve its diverse and bilingual communities in a way that was useful to them. In addition to providing a number of links and an overview of immigrant resources, it was important to summarize each of the many cultural heritages in Pittsburgh. On the "Our International Communities" page, viewers may select a region and a specific country that will take them to key contacts in that community, important dates for their countrymen, and highlights about local businesses.  Through NuRelm's instant update technology, these and other pages are also available in the native language of the country discussed, making it easy for a foreigner to feel a little more at home in Pittsburgh. 

As these communities thrive in the city, frequent changes are made to the Web site to keep the content current.  GlobalPittsburgh uses NuHost, hosting combined with content management software, to make their site completely editable.

Community Events

The Web site not only highlights the differences of one another's cultures, but also provides a way for the communities to coexist online just as they do in Pittsburgh. Both the online graphical calendar and the online discussion forum provide this necessary interaction. NuRelm's calendar feature was a perfect fit for GlobalPittsburgh's needs. The community calendar offers an easy to view listing of cultural events in and around the city. Cultural events sponsored by local organizations can  be submitted online and listed for free.  Upcoming events are listed to the side of the calendar automatically, so frequent site visitors can see what's coming up at a glance. Altogether, the calendar added interactivity to the site and has increased the site visitors. The number of events listed has multiplied in recent months, and GlobalPittsburgh is still searching for a way to assess how listing on their site affects attendance to these events.
